Early Childhood
3-6 yrs

"The aim of the prepared environment is, as far as it is possible, to render the growing child independent of the adult."
Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori's concept of the "Prepared Environment" is that the environment can be designed to facilitate maximum independent learning and exploration by the child.
In the calm, ordered Prepared Environment at MAMG, children work at their own pace on activities of their own choice. They experience a blend of freedom and self-discipline in an environment carefully designed to meet their developmental needs.
Our classrooms are composed of mixed ages, from ages 2.5 through 6 years old. Maria Montessori sought to create a community where children are inspired and aided by the older students, as the older students act as role models. The Montessori Method allows the child to learn at their own pace, concentrating on areas of strength and focusing on areas where more attention may be needed.
The materials in a Montessori classroom are carefully prepared by the Directress and strategically sequenced by degree of difficulty. The children work on materials at their own pace and readiness, as opposed to age as the indicator. The children are allowed to be active participants in their learning. Guided by the teacher, the children are given the freedom to learn in a structured environment and develop self-discipline. This allows the child to become empowered and develop independence.
